FAQ
Find quick answers to the most common questions about the SAM device, its use, and clinical benefits.
This section is designed to help you understand how SAM supports airway management and when it may be appropriate in practice.
What is the SAM device used for?
The Stable Airway Management (SAM) device is designed to maintain optimal airway positioning during Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) procedures. It helps maintain the patient in the “sniffing position,” supporting airway patency without the need for endotracheal intubation.
Is SAM FDA cleared?
SAM has been designated as a Class I medical device by the FDA and is considered a Non-Significant Risk (NSR) device. It is manufactured in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
Has SAM been clinically evaluated?
Yes. SAM was evaluated in a randomized controlled study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. The study assessed airway manipulation rates, safety outcomes, and conversion from MAC to general anesthesia. Results showed no increased risk of airway manipulation or anesthesia conversion when compared to standard of care.
Clinical trial details are available at:
What patient population is SAM indicated for?
SAM is indicated for adult patients undergoing monitored anesthesia care procedures. Clinical evaluation demonstrated applicability without BMI restriction in the studied population.
Is SAM compatible with MRI environments?
Yes. SAM is constructed from non-metallic, medical-grade materials, making it suitable for use in MRI settings as well as other procedural environments.
Why Healthcare Systems Choose SAM
Operational Efficiency
Reduces the need for repeated airway adjustments during monitored anesthesia care procedures.
Risk Management
Supports standardized airway positioning in rapidly growing non-operating room anesthesia settings.
Lower Total Cost
Disposable design streamlines workflow and minimizes reprocessing and sterilization expenses.
U.S. Manufacturing
100% manufactured and assembled in Virginia using high-quality medical-grade materials.
